Meet the chef

Saúl Gerson

Born in 1955 in a small town in the Argentine Pampas, Saúl Gerson grew up surrounded by open fields, homemade food, and family traditions. From an early age, he developed a passion for farming, writing, and cooking — values deeply rooted in his rural upbringing. His father, a German-Jewish immigrant who escaped the devastation of World War II, became a rancher, while his mother — a gifted writer, cook, and warm host — nurtured his appreciation for hospitality and sharing meals.

At 17, driven by curiosity and a desire for freedom, Saúl left home to explore the world. He traveled through Africa, the Middle East, and Europe, living in alternative communities and often finding shelter in strangers’ barns — experiences that opened his mind to new cultures and ways of life. After working in carpentry, farming, and even algae cultivation, he eventually returned to Argentina to pursue a career in Economics. Yet his love for the countryside drew him back to the land: for more than 15 years, he managed a large ranch, immersing himself in the world of the gauchos, their food, and their traditions.

A Turning Point

In 1991, Saúl left his economist career to embark on a journey of personal growth, embracing values that would later shape his culinary philosophy: love for nature, honesty, hospitality, generosity, openness, and simplicity.

Cooking & Tango

By 2005, he decided to follow his true passions: cooking and tango. After intensive training, he founded El Arte de Amasar in 2010 — a boutique cooking school and one of Argentina’s most visited culinary blogs. His classes soon became memorable cultural experiences, pairing authentic dishes with Argentine wines and lively conversations.

Building on the success of El Arte de Amasar, Saúl created Argentine Cooking Lessons — exclusive, hands-on classes where visitors cook iconic Argentine dishes while discovering the traditions and flavors of Buenos Aires.
